FMP
Financial Modeling Prep · this app's data source
A financial data provider (financial statements, prices, company profiles) that this tool draws its numbers from — not an investment concept, but the source behind what you see on screen.
What it is
FMP (financialmodelingprep.com) is a data service (API) that aggregates financial statements, prices, company profiles, and market data from stock exchanges and regulatory filings, making them programmatically accessible.
This tool uses FMP to retrieve most of the numbers it works with: share price, revenues and margins from financial statements, beta, market cap, dividend history, and more. When an answer says "according to the data" or cites a specific number without another source, it typically comes from FMP.
FMP itself is not a primary source — it is an intermediary that takes numbers from official company filings (see SEC filings) and exchange feeds and processes them into a unified format.
Why track it
Understanding the data source helps you understand its limits. FMP data has a delay (prices are not tick-by-tick), coverage varies by exchange (US companies best, exotic exchanges worse), and some fields for recently listed or small companies are missing — typically beta or detailed segment breakdowns.
When the tool reports that a specific input is missing (e.g. beta), it means specifically that the FMP profile for that ticker did not have it filled in — not that the input does not exist.

Watch out for
Data aggregators sometimes carry over an error from a source filing or introduce one through their own processing — a single bad number can then propagate into all derived metrics. If a number looks nonsensical (an order-of-magnitude jump between quarters with no apparent reason), verify it in the official 10-Q or 10-K — that is always the authoritative source.
